Vol. 523 No. 2

Written Answers. - Harbours and Piers.

Breeda Moynihan-Cronin

Ceist:

132 Mrs. B. Moynihan-Cronin asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if he will make funding available for the extension of the Kells Pier, County Kerry; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20865/00]

The pier at Kells Bay is owned by Kerry County Council and its repair and maintenance is the responsibility of the local authority in the first instance. Kells Bay is among the pier and harbours projects in County Kerry which have been submitted to my Department by the county council for funding support. While significant funding has been allocated in respect of harbour works in County Kerry this year, it was not possible, having regard to overall harbour development requirements, to provide funding for works at Kells. The possibility of providing financial assistance for works at this location will, however, be kept under review by my Department, in consultation with the local authority, in the drawing up of fishery harbour programmes for future years.
