Vol. 523 No. 2

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Breeda Moynihan-Cronin

Ceist:

174 Mrs. B. Moynihan-Cronin asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the reason funding was not made available for the provision of the Firies-Scartaglin regional water scheme, County Kerry, in view of the fact that it has been prioritised by the Kerry County Council and the fact that the application was made in 1993; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20855/00]

Because of the level of competing demand and the need to prioritise individual proposals on a national basis, it was not possible to include all schemes proposed by local authorities in the recently announced water services investment programme 2000-02. This is the first phase of a rolling three-year programme that will continue up to the end of the current national development plan in 2006. Further schemes will be added to the programme on an annual basis during that period. The Firies-Scartaglin scheme will continue to be considered in that context.
