Vol. 523 No. 2

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

Liam Aylward

Ceist:

178 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs if payment of contributory old age pension due since March 2000 together with arrears has been paid to a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny. [20838/00]

In August 2000, the person concerned was awarded an old age contributory pension of £158.70 per week with effect from

3 March 2000. This payment comprises a personal rate of £94.10 and a qualified adult allowance of £64.60. A book of payable orders commencing 15 September 2000 issued to his local post office on 30 August 2000.

There was a delay in deciding the pension entitlement in this case as there were some outstanding PRSI liabilities. It was not until these liabilities had been paid in full in July 2000 that my Department was in a position to further examine his entitlement to old age contributory pension.

Arrears of pension for the period from 3 March 2000 to 14 September 2000, less the amount of old age non-contributory pension paid to his spouse during the same period, issued to the person concerned by cheque on 28 September 2000.
