Vol. 524 No. 2

Written Answers. - Hospital Services.

John Perry

Ceist:

307 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Health and Children when the new dialysis unit will be opened in Sligo General Hospital in view of the fact that this is a most needed facility and in further view of the condition of the present unit; the progress made in this regard; the negotiations that have taken place; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22231/00]

The provision of hospital services in Sligo General Hospital is the statutory responsibility of the North Western Health Board in the first instance. I understand from the board that the new renal dialysis unit at the hospital is a key capital priority development. The unit forms part of the board's proposals under the national development plan and the necessary arrangements are being finalised to commence this development early in 2001.
