The Deputy will be aware that the monitoring of staffing levels in hospitals is in the first instance a matter for the relevant health board to determine.
I am advised by the Southern Health Board that the post of cytopathologist has been advertised by the Local Appointments Commission. To date, no suitable candidate has applied. The commission plans to re-advertise the post in six months time when the current trainees may be completing their training.
