Vol. 524 No. 5

Written Answers. - Medical Cards.

John McGuinness

Ceist:

354 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason a special medical card was not granted to a person (details supplied) in County Carlow; if his Department will re-examine the case and issue a medical card back dated to cover the GP costs to date in view of the extreme hardship experienced by the family; the reason a family with obvious difficulties was not granted the card and any other assistance without having to make an issue of their problems causing further anxiety and trauma; and if he will insist on immediate action in the case. [23288/00]

The granting of a medical card in an individual case is a matter for the chief executive officer of the relevant health board. Accordingly, I have asked the chief executive officer of the South Eastern Health Board to have this case examined, as a matter of urgency, and to reply directly to the Deputy.
