Vol. 524 No. 5

Written Answers. - Vaccination Programme.

Enda Kenny

Ceist:

359 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will authorise the holding of a pre-school booster immunisation clinic for Belmullet, County Mayo, which would reduce GP waiting periods and facilitate parents by not having to travel up to 100 miles round trip to Ballina, County Mayo; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23328/00]

The arrangements for the provision of booster immunisations are a matter for the individual health boards in the first instance. My Department has made inquiries of the Western Health Board about the matter raised by the Deputy and has been informed that a local immunisation committee has recently been established to consider a number of issues, including the arrangements for the delivery of booster immunisations. The board has indicated that difficulty with the recruitment of area medical officer personnel is one of the constraints on the development of this service at present.
