Vol. 524 No. 5

Written Answers. - Coroner Service.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

429 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the steps he has taken to ensure that new policies are introduced to ensure better practice in the management of post-mortems ordered by coroners incorporating the recommendations of the faculty of pathology. [23149/00]

The Deputy will be aware that in December 1998 the Government approved my proposals to establish a working group to undertake a comprehensive review of the coroner service.

The faculty of pathology was represented on this group and I understand that its representatives worked in very close co-operation with the other group members in examining the matters under review, including all issues related to coroners' post-mortems.

I understand that the group has finalised its work and I expect to have its final report shortly. I can assure the Deputy that this report will, on its receipt, be examined by Government as quickly as possible.
