Vol. 524 No. 5

Written Answers. - Garda Deployment.

Dan Neville

Ceist:

445 Mr. Neville asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if, further to his reply to Parliamentary Question No. 237 of 18 April 2000, he will outline the current situation regarding the replacement of a garda (details supplied) in County Limerick. [23058/00]

The Garda authorities, which are responsible for the detailed allocation of Garda personnel and resources to individual areas, have informed me that the current manpower strength of Shanagolden Garda station, as of 1 October 2000, is one garda.

Shanagolden sub-district is patrolled by the local member, assisted by gardaí from Foynes in their patrol car. He is also assisted by members from the Askeaton district headquarters station in performing patrols of the sub-district by patrol car.

I am informed that the allocation of additional personnel, including the filling of the vacancy at Shanagolden Garda station, is reviewed on an ongoing basis by the Garda authorities, and when additional manpower next becomes available, the needs of Shanagolden will be fully considered in the overall context of the needs of Garda districts throughout the country.
