Vol. 524 No. 5

Written Answers. - Schools Amalgamation.

John Perry

Ceist:

461 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Education and Science if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 300 of 7 December 1999 in relation to the amalgamation of Banada secondary school and the Marist Convent, Tubbercurry, County Sligo, he will agree to display the plans for the new school in Tubbercurry, County Sligo; when a copy of the plans will be made available; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22845/00]

A site has been identified for the construction of a new community school in Tubbercurry and arrangements are well advanced to finalise its acquisition.

The proposed new school is being provided as one of the pilot public-private partnership projects and is one of a group of new schools being developed on a design, build, finance and operate basis. The competitive process is now under way and private sector bids are due in February next year. A copy of the plans for the successful bid will be made available to the schools.
The two schools are represented on the project I plan for the new school.
