Vol. 524 No. 5

Written Answers. - Institutes of Technology.

Breeda Moynihan-Cronin

Ceist:

514 Mrs. B. Moynihan-Cronin asked the Minister for Education and Science the proposals he has to deal with the concerns being experienced by students of architectural technology at Limerick Institute of Technology due to changes in the syllabus; if his attention has been drawn to the difficulties the students are having; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23208/00]

Under the Regional Technical Colleges Acts, 1992 to 1999, the management and control of Limerick Institute of Technology are the responsibility of the governing body and the director. In academic matters such as course modifications or alterations I, as Minister, have no function under the Regional Technical College Acts.

However, in relation to the current difficulties surrounding the architectural technology course, and in response to concerns voiced by students, I have appointed a facilitator in an effort to seek a resolution of the current difficulties with the course. The facilitator is currently engaged in consulting with relevant interests, with a view to identifying the concerns of those involved and identifying options for a possible resolution of the current difficulties.
