Vol. 524 No. 5

Written Answers. - Public Transport.

Richard Bruton

Ceist:

189 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the expenditure planned in 2000 and during the national development plan indicating the associated extra passenger capacity on the Dublin Bus fleet, on the Bus Éireann fleet, on the DART rolling stock and on the mainline rolling stock. [23044/00]

The national plan provides for £2.2 billion of investment in public transport in the period 2000 to 2006 of which £1.6 billion has been allocated specifically for the greater Dublin area. Approximately £300 million will be spent on public transport projects under the national development plan in 2000.

The additional rolling stock proposed under the national development plan will increase DART capacity by almost 7,400 places, suburban rail capacity by 7,800 seats, increase the capacity of Bus Átha Cliath by 22,000, Bus Éireann by 20,790 seats and the mainline rail capacity by approximately 3,600 over the life of the plan.

Question No. 190 taken with Question No. 185.
