Vol. 525 No. 1

Written Answers. - Irish League of Credit Unions.

Ruairí Quinn

Ceist:

100 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Finance if he will make a statement on the Government's meeting with representatives of the Irish League of Credit Unions on 21 September 2000. [20085/00]

The Taoiseach and the Tánaiste met the Irish League of Credit Unions on 21 September 2000 to discuss the taxation arrangements for credit unions and their members. I had previously met the president of the ILCU on 11 September and it was agreed that further discussions would take place. I have since had two further meetings with the ILCU on 3 and 6 October 2000 to discuss the taxation arrangements for credit unions. At the meeting on 6 October, it was agreed that these discussions could form the basis of an agreement for new taxation arrangements for the credit union movement. The Irish League of Credit Unions is consulting its members at present on this issue. I am not in a position to comment further on the ultimate outcome of the discussions to date at this time.
