Vol. 525 No. 5

Written Answers. - Garda Investigations.

Pat Rabbitte

Ceist:

362 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the position regarding the Garda investigation into the seizure of a consignment of cattle at a factory (details supplied) in County Tipperary in November 1997 believed to have been smuggled from Northern Ireland; if the investigation has been completed; if a file has been sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions; if any prosecutions have been initiated; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25802/00]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that following the completion of an investigation, a file on the matter was forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions, who directed that proceedings should be brought against one person. I understand that in May of this year, at Nenagh District Court, this person was fined a total of £4,000 for breaches of the Diseases of Animals Act, 1966.
