178 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Defence the number of naval personnel currently taking part in the various disciplines of the technician trainee schemes; the number he plans to transfer or recruit in the next twelve months to the various disciplines of the schemes; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The military authorities advise that the number of Naval Service personnel who are currently undergoing training as trainee technicians and apprentices is as shown on the following table:

Radio Radar Technicians	4.00	2.00

The final board report for the selection of trainee technicians for this year is at present being finalised by the military authorities. It is anticipated that trainee technician places will be allocated as follows: electrical artificers 7; engine room artificers 8; shipwrights 2.
