Vol. 526 No. 3

Written Answers. - Military Police Duties.

Michael Finucane

Ceist:

182 Mr. Finucane asked the Minister for Defence if he has received a letter from a person (details supplied) in Dublin 22 who is concerned about safety arising from Government cutbacks in the Military Police Service; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26788/00]

The military authorities advise that when a member of the military police is rostered for duty, he has the backup of barrack duty personnel available for assistance if required. The military authorities further advise that prior to prisoners being accepted for detention, a risk assessment of the incoming prisoner is carried out and if required, additional military police personnel are rostered for duty.

The specific matters raised in the correspondence referred to by the Deputy will be addressed in the reply to the individual concerned.
