Vol. 526 No. 3

Written Answers. - Flood Relief.

Liam Aylward

Ceist:

209 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development if he will arrange to have compensation paid to persons (details supplied) in County Wexford who lost sheep in the recent flooding in view of the fact the insurance companies have refused their application for compensation. [26621/00]

John McGuinness

Ceist:

211 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development if he will urgently consider a compensation package for farmers who have lost stock due to recent flooding; the steps to be taken by farmers to record their losses and make a submission to his Department; if he will offer assistance and advice to three farmers (details supplied) in County Wexford who have suffered extreme loss; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26720/00]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 209 and 211 together.

In response to the recent flooding the Government decided to initiate an ex gratia scheme of humanitarian assistance to relieve cases of severe hardship. The Irish Red Cross Society will implement the scheme. The society has placed advertisements in the national newspapers this week seeking applications under the scheme.
