Vol. 526 No. 3

Written Answers. - Hospital Waiting Lists.

Michael D. Higgins

Ceist:

248 Mr. M. Higgins asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will report on the fact that a person (details supplied) in County Galway who has been on kidney dialysis since 1998, in Merlin Park Hospital, Galway where she has received excellent care to date, was summoned to Dublin's Beaumont Hospital to receive a kidney transplant on 8 October 2000, but due to her health status not having been updated since 1998 her operation could not take place; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26344/00]

The provision of medical treatment to eligible persons is, in this instance, the statutory responsibility of the Eastern Regional Health Authority. My Department has asked the chief executive officer of the authority to investigate the position in relation to this case and reply directly to the Deputy.
