Ceist:

435 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science if he has satisfied himself as to the adequacy of permanent school places and facilities at Sallins national school, County Kildare; the plans he has to deal with current and future demands; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26790/00]

Architectural planning is progressing for the provision of additional permanent accommodation at Sallins national school. It is envisaged that following the completion of the building project at this school there will be sufficient primary school provision to meet the current demand. However, the accommodation requirements of the school will continue to be monitored by my Department.

438 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science the current position in respect of the provision of the extra facilities identified as being required at Scoil Dara, Kilcock, County Kildare; the progress to date in respect of the provision of same; the various formalities in sequence still to be undergone; the nature and extent of the facilities now involved; if he has satisfied himself as to the adequacy of places at the school to meet the demand; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26793/00]

The stage 4-5, detailed design and bill of quantities, submissions in respect of the proposed building works at Scoil Dara, Kilcock, County Kildare, were received in the building unit of my Department on 10 November 2000. These submissions are currently being examined within my Department. Upon completion of this examination and providing that they are in order, the question of authorising the invitation of tenders will be considered.

I am satisfied that the provision of 1897 square metres of additional accommodation is adequate to meet the demand of pupil places at this school.

439 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science the current position in regard to the provision of extra facilities at Maynooth post primary school, County Kildare; if any procedural formalities are outstanding in the issue; the exact nature and extent of facilities to be provided; when he expects the project to be completed; if he has satisfied himself as to the adequacy of places at the school to meet the demand; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26794/00]

My Department's planning and building unit has recently issued to County Kildare Vocational Education Committee a revised schedule of accommodation for its consideration and approval. This schedule reflects the increase in the long-term projected enrolment figures from 800 to 850 as advised by my Department's planning section following an appeal by the chief executive officer of County Kildare VEC.

The revised schedule of residual accommodation provides for a floor area of 1795 square metres, which comprises six general classrooms, two specialist rooms, a physical education hall and ancillary accommodation.
As this project is at such an early stage it is not possible to say when the accommodation will become available.

440 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science if he has satisfied himself that adequate school places and facilities for primary school children exist in Kilcock, County Kildare; his plans to address current and future demands; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26795/00]

With the exception of Gaelscoil Uí Riada, for which a new school is currently in architectural planning, primary school enrolments in Kilcock have remained static in recent years. However, in view of proposed housing developments in the Kilcock area, the planning and building unit of my Department has determined that an extension will be required at Clochar Coca Naofa national school to replace existing temporary accommodation and to allow for an anticipated increase in numbers. My Department will continue to monitor school accommodation requirements in the Kilcock area and any additional needs will be addressed as expeditiously as possible.

441 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science if he has satisfied himself that adequate school places exist to meet current and future requirements in respect of primary school children in the various schools in Celbridge, County Kildare; his plans to ensure ready access to facilitate demands arising from population increases; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26796/00]

With the exception of the north Kildare school project, primary school enrolments in Celbridge have been in gradual decline in recent years.

There are currently a number of projects in architectural planning for primary schools in the Celbridge area. One of these projects is to provide a new building for the north Kildare school project. The other projects involve the replacement of temporary classrooms with permanent accommodation and improving the level of ancillary accommodation at Scoil Mochua, Aghards and Scoil na Mainistreach. It is envisaged that, following the completion of these building projects, there will be sufficient primary school accommodation to meet the current demand.

My Department will continue to monitor school accommodation requirements in the Cel bridge area and any additional needs will be addressed as expeditiously as possible.

442 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science if adequate permanent classrooms and facilities are available to meet current and future requirements for primary school children in Maynooth, County Kildare; his plans or proposals to meet such requirements; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26797/00]

The enrolments at primary schools in the Maynooth area have shown a very gradual increase in recent years. To meet the additional need, an extension for the Presentation Convent is currently in architectural planning. In addition, my Department's technical staff are examining sites for a new school building for Gaelscoil Uí Fhiaich. My Department will continue to monitor school accommodation requirements in the Maynooth area and any additional needs will be addressed as expeditiously as possible.
