Vol. 526 No. 3

Written Answers. - Departmental Report.

Seán Ryan

Ceist:

105 Mr. S. Ryan asked the Minister for Education and Science when the Cromien report on the operation of his Department will be made available to the Oireachtas; and the action he will take on foot of this report. [26527/00]

Earlier this year I commissioned Mr. Sean Cromien, former Secretary of the Department of Finance, to conduct a review of my Department's operations, systems and staffing needs. I have arranged for copies of the report to be placed in the Oireachtas Library. Copies of the report are also available on request to my Department.

Following receipt of the report, the Secretary General of my Department convened a meeting of senior managers to consider the report. He subsequently appointed a high level implementation task force with significant representation from the Department's top management group. Its terms of reference are to examine the report in detail, to identify priorities for implementation, to consult with the staff associations and trade unions and to manage the implementation process. A sub-group of the task force will commence discussions with the staff associations and trade unions before the end of this month.
