Vol. 526 No. 3

Written Answers. - Special Educational Needs.

John Moloney

Ceist:

147 Mr. Moloney asked the Minister for Education and Science the proposals he has to provide for the education of an autistic person (details supplied) in County Laois who is at present at home due to the fact that there is no school within the system to cater for her needs. [24287/00]

I am aware of the details of this case and I have arranged for an educational needs questionnaire to be completed by the child's parents. This will help my Department to identify her educational needs and provide their written permission to contact schools and the national educational psychological service, on behalf of their child. I have also arranged for the advice of my Department's inspectorate and the NEPS to be sought in this case, and every effort will be made to find a suitable school placement.

In the meantime, I understand that six hours per week home tuition have been sanctioned by my Department for this pupil.
