Vol. 526 No. 5

Written Answers. - Departmental Funding.

Joe Higgins

Ceist:

78 Mr. Higgins (Dublin West) asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will ensure that funding is provided to the group of 35 mature students doing a Higher Diploma in Nursing Education at the Chester College, Liverpool, United Kingdom; and if his attention has been drawn to the importance of this group finishing their training by February 2001 in view of the demand for their skills in the health service here. [27117/00]

I understand that the course in question is a conversion programme for enrolled nurses leading to professional registration as a nurse with the relevant UK regulatory body and the award of an academic qualification. I am not in a position to provide funds to assist enrolled nurses working in the Irish public health service in non-nursing capacities to undertake that particular course. However, it is my intention to explore with An Bord Altranais and other relevant bodies whether it would be possible to deliver such a course here.

John Gormley

Ceist:

79 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for Health and Children if he has received representations from Enable Ireland for extra funding; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27120/00]

My Department is in receipt of a submission from Enable Ireland requesting additional funding for the provision of its current services. This request will be considered in the context of the overall funding to be made available for services for people with physical and sensory disabilities in the coming year.
