Vol. 526 No. 5

Written Answers. - Hospitals Building Programme.

Brian O'Shea

Ceist:

80 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Health and Children the plans he has for the refurbishment of the District Hospital and St. Joseph's Hospital, Dungarvan, County Waterford, bearing in mind the appalling state of the two hospitals; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27121/00]

As the Deputy is aware, the provision of health services in County Waterford is a matter for the South Eastern Health Board.

I understand that the board has plans to replace a number of long stay wards as part of the phased development of St. Joseph's Hospital, in Dungarvan. The Deputy will be aware that capital funding has already been allocated to provide for the upgrading of St. Joseph's Hospital, Dungarvan, through the commissioning of St. Enda's Ward, which was completed earlier this year.

The question of proceeding with the further development of St. Joseph's Hospital and the refurbishment of the district hospital are matters for consideration by the South Eastern Health Board in the light of the availability of capital funding and the boards other priorities for the development of services for older people.
