Vol. 526 No. 6

Written Answers. - Flood Relief.

Liam Lawlor

Ceist:

227 Mr. Lawlor asked the Minister for Finance if he will copy the actions of the British Department of the Environment which is mapping the various flood plain areas in that country and intends placing results on the Internet; his views on whether similar information would be of great interest to prospective home buyers here, particularly in the Dublin region. [27462/00]

I intend to reconvene the interdepartmental committee constituted by my predecessor in 1996 to examine the effects of bad weather. As part of the review of the recent bad weather and consequential flooding, I will ask the committee to consider the question of flood risk mapping. This is a complex task but when completed, it would give valuable assistance to local authorities, particularly when preparing development plans and considering planning applications.
