Vol. 526 No. 6

Written Answers. - Medical Cards.

John McGuinness

Ceist:

268 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will review an application for a medical card for persons (details supplied) in County Kilkenny in view of the hardship being experienced by the family due to the refusal of the original application in October 2000. [27399/00]

The determination of eligibility for medical cards is the responsibility of the chief executive officer of the appropriate health board. I, as Minister for Health and Children, do not have a function in the issue of medical cards to individuals. However, as the determination of eligibility of the persons concerned rests with the chief executive officer of the South Eastern Health Board, I have asked him to have the matter investigated and to reply directly to you.
