Vol. 526 No. 6

Written Answers. - Property Acquisition.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

291 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children if the Western Health Board made an offer following a recent meeting in Louisburg with his officials concerning the buying of the old convent property in Louisburg, County Mayo; the plans his Department or the Western Health Board has for this property; the current position on the purchase negotiations; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27712/00]

The provision of services for older people in County Mayo is a matter for the Western Health Board. I have been advised by the Western Health Board that, following discussions with the local community council and negotiations with the vendor of the convent property in Louisburg, County Mayo, agreement has been reached on the purchase of the property for use as a centre for the provision of a range of supports of older people. I have allocated a once off capital grant of £265,000 to the Western Health Board for the purchase of the convent property.

The board has informed my Department that services provided in the convent will include physiotherapy, occupational therapy and chiropody services. There are plans to develop day care services, a meals on wheels service and a laundry with the provision of a respite service for older people planned for the longer term.
