Vol. 526 No. 6

Written Answers. - Roads Funding.

Noel O'Flynn

Ceist:

303 Mr. O'Flynn asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will continue to provide a similar level of funding in 2001 and 2002 for Cork city street repairs in view of the ongoing street digging due to the Cork city main drainage; and if he will extend the substantial improvements in Cork city road surfaces which have taken place in the past two years as a result of his road repair funding programme. [27256/00]

Cork Corporation's non-national road grant allocation for 2000 is £2.963 million which represents an increase of 16% over 1999 and 93% on the initial 1997 allocation. It is my intention that further significant funding will be provided for local authorities when the non-national road grants for 2001 are announced early in the new year. The grant allocated by my Department to Cork Corporation for the Cork main drainage project provides for temporary and permanent reinstatement of the areas of street affected by work on this project.
