Vol. 526 No. 6

Written Answers. - Visa Applications.

Michael Creed

Ceist:

356 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will arrange to issue a holiday visa for a Russian citizen (details supplied) who proposes to visit here over the Christmas. [27369/00]

I understand that the Irish Embassy in Moscow has forwarded the visa application in question and that it is due to arrive in the immigration division of my Department this week. Assuming that all of the standard information has been supplied and that any additional queries are responded to promptly, it should be possible to reach a decision in a case of this nature within two weeks of receipt in my Department. I will inform the Deputy of the outcome as soon as it is available.

Thomas P. Broughan

Ceist:

357 Mr. Broughan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will review favourably the decision to refuse a visa to a person (details supplied) who wishes to visit friends here between 19 January 2001 and 19 April 2001. [27406/00]

The application in question was refused because it had not been established, on the basis of the documentation supplied, that the applicant would observe the conditions of a visit visa. The applicant's referee in Ireland was advised in writing of the reasons for refusal.

An appeal has since been received and officials from my Department have arranged to meet with the applicant's referee this week in order to discuss the additional information which has been supplied. I expect that a final decision will be arrived at shortly thereafter and I will advise the Deputy of the outcome.
