Ceist:362 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of persons awaiting free legal aid in County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27443/00]

The Deputy will be aware that the Legal Aid Board operates a law centre in Newbridge. I am informed by the board that at the end of October 2000 the number of persons on the waiting list for an appointment with a solicitor in the law centre was 59.
I am happy to note that the additional resources I obtained for the Legal Aid Board this year have led to the reduction from 336 persons on the waiting list in October 1999 and that waiting times at that centre will also have reduced accordingly.
