Ceist:

398 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will provide sporting facilities, that is playing fields, gymnasium and others at the new college proposed for Athy, County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27431/00]

My Department's planning and building unit has recently issued to County Kildare vocational educational committee for its consideration and acceptance, a schedule of overall accommodation to cater for 350 pupils for the new college proposed for Athy, County Kildare.

This schedule provides for a floor area of 3468mf7>2 including a PE hall of 606mf7>2, which incorporates a PE ancillary area of 104mf7>2.In addition, as part of the new school project, the Department will fund the provision of four outdoor hardplay areas with a total area of 2,040mf7>2.

Where site area and configuration permits, an area should be reserved suitable for use as a playing field. The levelling and preparation of this area is not normally covered in the tender documents, but an all-in grant, on application, will be considered.
