Vol. 526 No. 6

Written Answers. - Ministerial Appointments.

Andrew Boylan

Ceist:

132 Mr. Boylan asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the reason he has not appointed his three nominees to the Irish Co-operative Organisation Society; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the co-operative societies cannot hold meetings until he has made his appointments; and his reasons for the delay and an appointment date. [27341/00]

Section 5 of the Fisheries (Amendment) Act, 1991, as amended by section 28 of the Fisheries (Amendment) Act, 1999, provides that in addition to the elected members of the management committee of a fisheries co-operative society, the Minister may appoint not more than two persons to be members, of whom one shall be a member of the staff of the relevant regional fisheries on the nomination of that board.

I recently appointed two members to each of the management committees of the eight fisheries co-operative societies thus completing the membership of all the committees.
