Vol. 527 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Accommodation.

Pádraic McCormack

Ceist:

135 Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for Education and Science the current position regarding the application by Gurrane national school, Maree, Oranmore, County Galway, concerning their application for an extension to the school; if this has been sanctioned; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27854/00]

The long-term accommodation requirements of Gurrane national school are being assessed by my Department and when this process has been completed further consideration will be given to an application from the school authorities for additional facilities.

The board of management will be kept informed of developments.

Liam Aylward

Ceist:

136 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will arrange to have immediate action taken on two serious matters pertaining to a school (details supplied) in County Kilkenny in view of the urgency outlined. [27855/00]

My Department's planning and building unit commissioned a condition report on the roof of the school to which the Deputy refers, to include estimated costs and recommendations for repair or replacement. This report has been submitted and examined. However, the management authority of this school recently indicated that there are further problems with the roof, which require investigation. Arrangements are currently being made to have these latter items included as part of the overall report.

Concerning the issue of the heating system at the school in question, my Department recently requested that tender documents be prepared for the replacement of boiler No. 1 at the school and arrangements have also been made to investigate the problems in relation to boiler No. 2.
