Vol. 527 No. 1

Written Answers. - Institutes of Technology.

Ceist:

147 Mr. Hayes asked the Minister for Education and Science the actions his Department is taking to resolve the ongoing industrial dispute at the Institute of Technology in Tallaght; his views on the difficulties which students face as a result of this action; the likely timeframe in which a resolution to this dispute can be found; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27933/00]

The industrial dispute referred to concerns of administrative managerial grades and affects the institutes of technology generally with the exception of the Dublin Institute of Technology. Every effort is being made to resolve this dispute as quickly as possible. An offer based on the recommendations of independent consultants has been made. The matter has also been discussed at the Labour Relations Commission on a number of occasions. The Department is anxious that, as agreement has not been reached, the matter should now be referred to the Labour Court in accordance with good industrial relations practice. To date, one of the two trade unions involved has not agreed to such a referral.
