Vol. 527 No. 1

Written Answers. - Public Transport.

Michael Creed

Ceist:

60 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the position regarding competition on provincial bus routes. [27841/00]

Licences are issued for road passenger services under the Road Transport Act, 1932.

More than one operator may be licensed to operate on a provincial route, provided there is at least a one hour time difference between the services being provided by different operators.

A review of the regulation of the bus market in the greater Dublin area was completed earlier this year and reform proposals were published in a Government consultation document "A New Institutional and Regulatory Framework for Public Transport". The next phase of this process will be a review of the bus market outside Dublin, which will be completed in 2001.
