Vol. 527 No. 2

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Jimmy Deenihan

Ceist:

116 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government when stage II of Castleisland sewerage scheme, County Kerry, will go to tender; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28037/00]

This scheme was 28th on the list of sewerage schemes submitted by Kerry County Council in response to my Department's request to local authorities to undertake a fresh assessment of the needs for capital works in their areas and to prioritise their proposals on the basis of the assessment. The priority lists were taken into account in the framing of the water services investment programme, 2000-02, announced in July. Given the priority rating afforded to the scheme by the council, the level of competing demands and the funding available, it was not possible to include it in the programme at that time.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

117 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government when approval will be given for the next stage of the Westport sewerage scheme; and when the approval will be signed. [28067/00]

I presume that the Deputy is referring to contract No. 4, which relates to civil works and main drainage and pumping station systems for this scheme. Mayo County Council's tender report and recommendations for this contract, which were received in my Department this week, are currently under consideration.
