Vol. 527 No. 2

Written Answers. - Crime Levels.

Tony Gregory

Ceist:

135 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will request a report from the Garda authorities with regard to the serious anti-social activities of a group of youths in a laneway (details supplied) in Dublin 7; and if the Garda will pursue this matter by way of prosecution of the offenders concerned. [28048/00]

I am informed by Garda authorities that this complaint first came to their attention at the AGM of the local residents association on 23 November 2000. The Garda inspector who attended this meeting later visited the laneway in question, accompanied by the complainant.

I am also informed that additional manpower has been allocated to patrol the adjoining housing estates with a view to targeting anti-social behaviour, and that the laneway in question is receiving special attention. No disturbance was found by these patrols or complained of by local residents.

I am assured that the laneway continues to receive attention, and any disturbances or complaints received will be dealt with promptly by the Garda Síochána.
