Vol. 527 No. 2

Written Answers. - Centres of Excellence.

Richard Bruton

Ceist:

151 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science the discussions or decisions that have been taken by his Department on the detailed plans to establish a centre of excellence at St. Joseph's School for Visually Impaired, Gracepark Road, Dublin 9; and when he plans to act in this regard. [28095/00]

The report of the planning group for a national centre for children with visual impairment puts forward a comprehensive range of very significant proposals. The proposals in question address issues relating to models of service delivery both in terms of educational and health care inputs. They also raise a range of complex issues relating to the physical infrastructure required to accommodate the proposed services. The report of the planning group is currently being examined in my Department. Decisions regarding implementation of the planning group's recommendations will be taken when all relevant issues have been fully examined.
