Vol. 527 No. 2

Written Answers. - Budget 2000.

Derek McDowell

Ceist:

26 Mr. McDowell asked the Minister for Finance if he will confirm that the budget to be announced on 6 December 2000 will be subject to the National Anti-Poverty Strategy poverty proofing guidelines; if the budget tax package poverty proofing outcomes will be available on budget day; if the Government will honour the commitments given in paragraph 1.1.5 of the PPF regarding poverty proofing; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27997/00]

I assure the Deputy that the income tax provisions in the forthcoming budget will be poverty proofed having regard to the official guidelines on the matter. Responsibility for poverty proofing of expenditure measures rests with spending Departments.

I do not propose to comment, at this stage, on the precise material which will be available on budget day.
