Vol. 527 No. 3

Written Answers. - Northern Ireland Issues.

Cecilia Keaveney

Ceist:

120 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs further to Parliamentary Question No. 44 of 11 March 1999 and Parliamentary Question No. 282 of 3 October 2000 and the response by letter of 17 November 2000, his view on the reason the inquest in relation to a murder (details supplied) has still not been held; the reasons for this delay; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28573/00]

I agree with the Deputy that the case referred to, and its associated circumstances, present a very difficult situation for the family.

As the Deputy is aware, this case has been raised on several occasions through the British-Irish Secretariat. The Deputy will have noted my reply of 22 November in which I informed her that British authorities have confirmed that the preparation of an inquest file is at an advanced stage.

Officials of my Department have raised the Deputy's specific question with the British authorities and continue to monitor developments in the matter closely. Again, I assure the Deputy that as soon as that information is available to me, I will furnish her with the details.
