Vol. 527 No. 3

Written Answers. - Risk Material Storage.

Trevor Sargent

Ceist:

161 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development his role in sanctioning the storage of 6000 tonnes of tallow in a company (details supplied) on the banks of the River Boyne; and the way in which it is to be treated as specified risk material. [28516/00]

There are currently 6,000 tonnes of tallow derived from specified risk material stored in a facility in Drogheda. The material was stored over a period of time under the supervision of officials of my Department and is held in secure tanks. It is the intention of my Department to see that this material, which is classified as non-hazardous, is disposed of in accordance with the provisions of national legislation. It cannot be used for food or feed purposes.
