Vol. 527 No. 3

Written Answers. - National Centre for the Visually Impaired.

Richard Bruton

Ceist:

216 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Health and Children if he has pledged his support for a national centre for the visually impaired in order that an integrated set of therapeutic and educational services can be delivered to children who need them. [28818/00]

Derek McDowell

Ceist:

224 Mr. McDowell asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will provide Exchequer funding for St. Joseph's school for blind and visually impaired boys in Drumcondra, Dublin 9; the plans he has to implement the report on the development of a national centre for the visually impaired; and his views on whether such a centre should be created in order to provide for a co-ordinated approach to supporting all children with visual and physical disabilities. [28293/00]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 216 and 224 together.

I have recently received a copy of the report of the planning group on a national centre for children with visual impairment. The group's report puts forward a comprehensive range of very significant proposals and these are currently being considered in my Department.

Decisions regarding the implementation of this report will be taken when the report has been fully considered.
