Vol. 527 No. 3

Written Answers. - Orthodontic Treatment.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

228 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason a person (details supplied) in County Mayo was refused orthodontic treatment in view of the fact that a private dentist indicated she must have orthodontic treatment at a cost to the family of £2,750; if this complaint can be fully investigated, particularly as the family simply cannot afford such costs. [28326/00]

As the provision of orthodontic services for eligible persons in County Mayo is the statutory responsibility of the Western Health Board, I have asked the chief executive officer of that board to investigate the position in relation to this case and to reply directly to the Deputy as a matter of urgency.
