229 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children when a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will be called for an operation in Merlin Park Hospital, County Galway; if he will be called before the blood he has already donated specifically for the operation goes out of date, particularly as his operation was cancelled in the week ending 26 November 2000 due to the lack of anaesthetists. The provision of medical treatment for eligible persons in County Mayo is, in this instance, the statutory responsibility of the Western Health Board. My Department has asked the chief executive officer of the board to investigate the position in relation to this matter and reply to the Deputy directly.
