Vol. 527 No. 3

Written Answers. - Hospital Investigation.

John McGuinness

Ceist:

260 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will examine two incidents which occurred at the gynaecology unit of St. Luke's Hospital, Kilkenny, involving the miscarriage of a baby in the ante-natal ward and a further miscarriage which occurred on a bed in the public corridor; the reason the patient was in the corridor; the reason management has reduced the number of beds in this ward from 14 to ten; if the situation with regard to the beds can be reversed; if the vacant wing at Kilcreene Hospital can be reopened to offer care to the elderly during the winter months in particular; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28616/00]

The provision of medical services is, in this instance, the statutory responsibility of the South Eastern Health Board. My Department has asked the chief executive officer of the board to investigate the position in relation to the points raised by the Deputy and reply directly to him.

Question No. 261 taken with Question No. 258.
