Vol. 527 No. 3

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Michael Finucane

Ceist:

277 Mr. Finucane asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he has received an application for an extension of a sewerage scheme (details supplied) in County Limerick; if he will sympathetically examine such an application; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28280/00]

My Department has no formal proposals from Limerick County Council in this case.

Abbeyfeale sewerage scheme was included as a longer term objective in the list of water and sewerage schemes submitted by the council in response to my Department's request to local authorities to undertake a fresh assessment of the need for capital works in their areas and to prioritise their proposals on the basis of the assessment. The priority lists were taken into account in the framing of the Water Services Investment Programme, 2000-02, announced in July. Given the priority rating afforded to the scheme by the council, the level of competing demand and the funding available, it was not possible to include it in the programme at that time.
