Vol. 527 No. 3

Written Answers. - Special Areas of Conservation.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

317 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands the person or organisation which lodged the appeal against the SAC-NHA designation of the Clew Bay area of County Mayo; when the appeal was lodged; when it is hoped to have an outcome on it; if the appeal was lodged by a private individual, group or pub lic body; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [28552/00]

The Deputy will appreciate that it would not be appropriate, particularly in the context of people's right to privacy, to place on public record details of appellants in cases such as this.

However, I can inform the Deputy that the appeal in the case referred to was received on 26 September 2000 and that it is being examined initially by Dúchas, the heritage service of my Department. If Dúchas is unable to grant the appeal, the appellant will be provided with an opportunity to have the matter re-examined by the SAC appeals advisory board, chaired by the former Ombudsman, Mr. Michael Mills.

I am unable to state when the matter will be finalised but I assure the Deputy that it will be dealt with expeditiously.
