Vol. 527 No. 3

Written Answers. - School Accommodation.

Jack Wall

Ceist:

378 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the fact that many principals in the secondary school system have no proper office facilities to ensure proper consultation between principal and staff; if his attention has further been drawn to the fact that career guidance teachers also have no proper facilities to deal with the pupils in their schools; his views on whether there is an urgent need for his Department to provide capital funding for such schools to ensure that proper facilities are available in such schools; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28313/00]

I am pleased to inform the Deputy that provision is made for a principal's office, a meeting room, and a career guidance suite in all second level schools that have major capital projects either in planning or at construction.

Additionally, the post-primary building unit of my Department is currently finalising planning guidelines for post-primary schools. The guidelines detail the range of facilities that second level schools may receive.
