Vol. 527 No. 3

Written Answers. - School Transport.

John Perry

Ceist:

405 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Education and Science, further to Parliamentary Question No. 1120 of 3 October 2000, the progress being made on the extension of the bus service (details supplied); when a decision will be made; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28679/00]

My Department received an application for an extension of the school bus route on medical grounds for the family concerned.

The medical evidence was forwarded to the medical adviser who determined that the children's condition would not prevent them from making their way to the pick-up point.

The family concerned resides 0.4 miles from the route of service to the school. As this is considered to be a reasonable level of service in the context of the general operation of the school transport scheme, and as extra cost would be involved, it is not open to my Department to extend the service as requested.
