Expenditure on fishery harbours development in the current year is projected to be approximately £11 million. The national development plan provides for expenditure on new and upgraded berthage and other facilities at the fishery harbour centres and other key fishery harbours, as well as at smaller harbours and landings places.
Projects under way under the national development programme include developments at Killybegs, Castletownbere, Dunmore East and Rossaveal, and at other strategically important harbours and landing places including Cromane, County Kerry and Greencastle and Burtonport. Account also will be taken in decisions on the allocation of funding of the development needs of those smaller harbours and landing places which have an important role in the economic life of coastal communities.
