Vol. 527 No. 3

Written Answers. - Cross-Border Bodies.

Ceist:

114 Mr. Hayes asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the number of chief executives of the various cross-Border implementation bodies who have been appointed since the establishment of the North South Ministerial Council; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28345/00]

The six implementation bodies commenced their operations on 2 December 1999. Pending the appointment of permanent chief executive officers, the two Governments jointly designated interim chief executives to these bodies.

The recruitment process to appoint permanent chief executive officers to all of the bodies is now well under way. To date, one chief executive has been appointed and has taken up his new position. Further chief executive positions in respect of two bodies have been offered and it is expected that these appointments will be finalised shortly.

The process of recruiting the remaining chief executives is also well advanced and it is anticipated that all the appointments will have been approved by the North South ministerial council early in the new year.
